Sitemap Generator for WordPress
I have added a sitemaps plugin to my Wordpress Blogs today. The reason I decided I needed a sitemap generator was that I read in a number of online discussions that a sitemap will improve your search engine optimisation, helping ALL the spiders to locate your web pages. I found the sitemap plugin on the Wordpress.org site. It was easy to upload the plugin to my server under ‘wp content’. Next I visited the Wordpress dashboard and activated the plugin. Once the plugin is installed, a ’sitemaps’ button appears on the ‘options’ bar of your dashboard. My advice here is to click the ‘rebuild sitemap’ command and double check that the URL is working. If you had old sitemaps installed on your blog theycould be blocking the location, best to make sure.
Next go to Google Webmaster Central and submit your revised sitemap URL to Google.
If you have submitted your sitemaps to other search engines, make sure you update over there as well.
