New Year Ideas

Last week I attended a very informative one day seminar designed to help participants learn specific strategies that they can use to create and sell a profitable business that makes money from home. Anybody who is self-aware will know that they encounter certain blocks that are stopping them from setting and achieving ambitious goals in their career or their business. If you have been working for a while trying to make money from home, you will have faced many challenges along the way. Online Home Businesses are often affected badly by outside forces that can reduce or remove one of their income streams overnight. A good example is the recent Google slap following the page rank update in October. This Make Money From Home website attained Page Rank 4, after nearly a year of writing highly targeted material on the blog. But after just a few days the page rank fell back to 0 after Google changed the ranks of sites that had been carrying so-called paid links.

Everybody needs goals and a plan if they are to achieve anything in their career, whether that career involves working online from home or pursuing a corporate career progression. That plan also needs to cover contingencies like the Google page rank slap, so that you have another idea to follow if Plan A does not deliver the online income that you need. I will be writing about my online business strategy for 2008 over the course of the nest few weeks, so that I can begin next year with a viable online business plan that will achieve my income goals for the new year.

Participation in Link Schemes or Selling Links on Your Pages

If any of these apply to your website or blog, your page rank will suffer.

Google Page Rank Updates Spring 2007

The most recent Google Page Rank update was completed st the end of April. There were winners and losers as usual. For example this new blog on the topic of how to earn money from a blog still has page rank 0.  I was not completely surprised as I had only been posting to it for around six weeks, and normally I would expect to wait up to three months for ranking. It now has nearly 1000 inbound links but when I consult Google’s Webmaster Tools nothing is showing up.  I hope there is not a major problem with this domain.

Google Page Rank Changes April 2007

In March I moved Kevin the Collie’s Dog Training and health tips blog across from a blogspot address to its own domain. The blog had achieved 4 at its Blogger address, but that page rank disappeared after the move. But the page rank update at the end of April put things back on track as the new domain regained a page rank of 3, mainly due to its longevity (six months) and inbound links.

Page Rank Updates – Check Your Ranking

The page rank buttons installed on websites do not always show the latest page rank, nor does the Google Toolbar in my experience. I did some checks on all my wealth creation web pages using this free tool and I found some pleasant surprises – even recently created pages have a Page Rank of at least two . There is nothing to download, just go to the page and paste your URLs for instant results.

Google Page Rank Update

Apparently the next Google Page Rank update is due at the end of April or the beginning of May. I cannot wait, since I have been working on a new blog with information on how to earn money from a blog recently. I also migrated my dog’s Dog Training and health tips blog from a blogspot address to its own domain. This means it can attract higher paying earning opportunities, because a lot of paid to post sites exclude blogs with blogspot addresses. The downside is that the blog had reached page rank 4, but that disappeared of course when I moved it. As I have mentioned before, this taught me that I should have invested in a domain name (just $8!) from the outset.

Reciprocal Link Quality Inbound Links

In my previous post I pointed to some factors that can wipe out your efforts in gaining inbound links to your site. That does not mean that reciprocal linking is any less important. Here are six golden rules for quality inbound linking:

1. Link only to partners whose pages have some relevance to you.
2. Make sure you are not leaving dead links on your site, and of course dump any reciprocals that are no longer being reciprocated.
3. Use anchor text on your links that target your keywords/keyphrases.
4. Ensure that link partners are placing your link on the site and page that was agreed. A PR5 front page with spammy multiple entry ‘directories’ will not help your SERPs results.
5. Webmasters can stop their link pages being spidered by using a ‘no follow’ on the page or in robots.txt, rendering your reciprocal link useless. Always check that their link page is indexed on Google.
6. Use link opportunities to link to all the important pages on your site, not just the home page. This can increase the relevance on the link as well.
